Itinerary

This safari begins and ends at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya.

DAY 1: Niarobi
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be warmly welcomed by a member of the &Beyond team, who will drive you to Hogmead, where you will spend the night. Your stay is on a bed and breakfast basis and includes laundry, Wi-Fi and satellite TV.

Kenya’s capital is one of the largest and most influential cities in Africa, an important commercial and financial regional hub. It is the port of entry for most travellers to Kenya and offers bustling markets, an interesting history and numerous attractions. Named after a Maasai watering hole, ‘enkare nyarobi’, which means ‘place of cool waters’, Nairobi is known for its leafy streets and parks, as well as its skyline, with towering skyscrapers and imposing architecture. A visit to Uhuru Park and the Karen Blixen Museum are not to be missed.

DAY 2 & 3: Samburu National Park
Enjoy breakfast before you are driven to Wilson Airport, where you will board a flight to Buffalo Springs Airstrip. You will enjoy your first short game drive en route to the camp.
The best feature of Samburu is not the wildlife of the picturesque surroundings, but the fact that it is one of the lesser visited regions in Kenya. The peaceful atmosphere and the authentic wilderness experience set it apart from the better known wildlife reserves in Kenya, Situated on the banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River, with its palm groves and dense forests, there is plentiful wildlife and the bird watching is especially good. The rest of the reserve is fairly hot and semi-arid, making for easy game viewing.

Indulge in two nights in a tent at Samburu Intrepids. Your stay is on a full board basis, including park fees, game drives and bush walks.

DAY 4 & 5: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
After breakfast you will return to the airstrip for a flight to Lewa Airstrip. Enjoy a 15-minute game drive on the way to camp.

The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is a 62 000 wilderness sanctuary situated on the northern slopes of Mt Kenya. It consists of five extremely diverse ecosystems – open savanna, acacia forest, rocky gorges and ravines, mountain forest and the Lewa swamp. The conservancy supports over 440 species of birds and more than 61 different mammals, including some rare and endangered species. Lewa is also home to both black and white rhino, as well as being one of the last remaining habitats of the rare aquatic sitatunga. The area also boasts an ever-increasing population of reticulated giraffe, a quarter of the world’s remaining population of Grevy’s zebra and a pack of elusive wild dogs.

Relax for two nights in a tent at Lewa Safari Camp. Your stay is on a full board basis, including park fees, game drives and bush walks.

DAY 6 & 7: Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast you will be driven to Lewa Airstrip, where you will board a light to Kichwa Airstrip. The game viewing begins as you land, with a 10-minute game drive taking you to the camp.

The Masai Mara is Kenya’s most renowned game park, bordering on Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. Its legendary Great Migration of over two million wildebeest and other antelope has been described as one of nature’s greatest wildlife spectacles and an experience that every safari enthusiast should witness at least once in their lifetime. Game viewing in this celebrated park is wonderful year round, with virtually guaranteed sightings of the Big Five. The park takes its name from the Mara River, which flows through the reserve, and the Maasai people, a tribe whose red dress and proud demeanour have ensured that they are probably Kenya’s best known (and most photographed) people.

Spend two nights in a luxury or standard ensuite safari tent at Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara Tented Camp.

DAY 8: Departure
A final game drive offers last opportunities for spotting wildlife before breakfast and your drive to the airstrip, where you will board a flight to Wilson Airport. On arrival, you will be driven to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where your safari with us will end.
