Itinerary
This safari begins and ends at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
DAY 1: Niarobi
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be welcomed by a member of the &Beyond team, who will drive you to the Palacina Suites, where you will spend the night. Your stay is on a bed and breakfast basis.
Nairobi is the port of entry for most travellers to Kenya and offers bustling markets, an interesting history and numerous attractions. Named after a Maasai watering hole, ‘enkare nyarobi’, which means ‘place of cool waters’, the city is known for its leafy streets and parks, as well as its towering skyscrapers and imposing architecture.
DAY 2 & 3: Meru National Park
You will be driven to Wilson Airport, where you will catch a flight to Mughwango Hill Airstrip. A vehicle will be waiting to take you on a short game drive en route to the camp.
Meru National Park is world famous as the place where Elsa the lioness was returned to the wild in Joy Adamson’s book Born Free. Meru boasts the widest variety of landscapes and habitats of all Kenyan parks. Forest, swamp and savannah are pierced by 15 perennial rivers. This marvelous sanctuary contains a great variety of wildlife. All the Big Five can be seen and Meru is also well known for its cheetah and leopard.
Spend two nights in an ensuite room at Elsa’s Kopje. Your stay includes three meals daily, laundry, bush breakfast / lunch, soft drinks, beers, house wines, non luxury spirits and daily adventures. Night game drives, fishing and walking are available at an additional cost.
DAY 4 & 5: Laikipia Plateau
Return to the airstrip for a flight to Loisaba Airstrip. A vehicle will be waiting to take you on a game drive en route to the lodge.
The eastern escarpment of the Rift Valley, known as the Laikipia Plateau, is divided into enormous game reserves, which contain some of the most exclusive lodges in the remotest parts of Kenya. This enormous wildlife stronghold is notable for its select lodges, important ecosystem with large wildlife populations, and the fact that it is home to more endangered species than anywhere else in Africa.
Relax for two nights in an ensuite room at Loisaba Lodge. Your stay includes three meals daily, laundry, soft drinks, local brand beer and house wines. Adventures includes twice-daily game drives, bush walks, fishing, river canoeing (seasonal), cultural visits, mountain bike rides, tennis, crocquet and bocce.
DAY 6 – 8: Masai Mara National Reserve
Yet another flight will take you to Kichwa Airstrip. It is a 10-minute game drive from the airstrip to the camp.
The Masai Mara is Kenya’s most renowned game park. Its legendary Great Migration of over two million wildebeest and other antelope has been described as one of nature’s greatest wildlife spectacles. Game viewing in this celebrated park is wonderful all year round, with virtually guaranteed sightings of the Big Five. The park takes its name from the Mara River, which flows through the reserve, and the Maasai people, a tribe whose red dress and proud demeanour have ensured that they are probably Kenya’s best-known (and most photographed) people.
Spend three nights in a spacious safari tent on a raised wooden platform at Bateleur Camp at &Beyond Kichwa Tembo. Adventures include morning and afternoon game drives in an open 4×4 safari vehicle, night drives, guided nature walks and sundowner overlooking the Mara. Maasai community visits and hot air ballooning are available at an additional cost.
DAY 9: Departure
A final flight will return you to Wilson Airport. A member of the &Beyond team will be waiting to drive you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where your adventure with us will end.
