Weather

South Africa can be visited comfortably any time of the year.

Winter (May to August) is cooler and drier, and ideal for hiking and outdoor pursuits. Because vegetation is less dense, and thirsty animals congregate around water sources, winter is also the best time for game viewing. Cape Town experiences rain and cold days during winter.

Summer (late November to March) brings rain, mists and – in the lowveld – some very hot days. Along the Indian Ocean coast, conditions are tropical, with high humidity.

Spring (September to October) and Autumn (April to May) are ideal almost every­where.
