Lufupa Bush Camp

Situated south of the magnificent Busanga Plains and roughly 35km downstream from the confluence of the Lufupa and Kafue Rivers is the Kafwala Rapids, rushing roaring waters that frame the site of Lufupa Bush Camp. The camp is tucked under huge shady mangosteen and ebony trees, allowing for a wonderful cool environment and overlooking the Kafue River.

Four well appointed ‘rondavels’ (round, African-style chalet with a thatched roof) all facing the river have been newly furnished along with the finest quality linens. Water is heated by a good old fashioned ‘donkey boiler’ and therefore allow for plenty hot water. Lighting is provided by traditional paraffin lanterns. Separate library and dining facilities are in place overlooking the river.

The simplicity and remoteness of this bush camp is certainly its charm and the sound of the Kafue River as it rushes over the rapids creates a wonderful ambiance throughout the area.

Lufupa Camp Game Viewing

The focus is the Lufupa and Kafue Rivers and the thick riverine vegetation that fringes these water courses. Further away are diverse habitats such as floodplains, miombo woodland and open grassy areas called dambos. Leopard and lion sightings are good and elephant are often seen moving through the area. Puku, impala, zebra, buffalo, kudu and the endemic Defassa waterbuck are common while unusual species include Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and sable antelope. The Lufupa area boasts well over 400 bird species including ‘specials’ such as Crowned Crane and African Finfoot.
