The Luxury Musanga Camp in the Kafue National Park – Zambia Safari
Overview
Situated on the southern fringe of the Busanga Plains in the Ntemwa region, Musanza Camp is located on the permanent pools of the Lufupa River. Being in an ‘eco-tone’ (area between two differing ecosystems), the Ntemwa area produces excellent game viewing in a variety of habitats, and is well known for its leopard sightings as well as its great diversity of antelope.
The camp is under thick shade on a wooded island and overlooks the river. The six tents, generously spaced to allow for maximum privacy, are semi-permanent, meaning that they are erected at the start of every safari season. The remoteness and rustic appearance of this little camp enhances the ‘pioneering’ sensation of Wilderness’ Explorations.
Each tent has crisp, pure cotton linen, duvets on two comfortable beds, a small hanging wardrobe and luggage rack. At the back of each tent is a private flushing toilet and next to that is a shower area with a bucket shower – hot water is available and brought to the tent whenever needed. Lighting is provided by rechargeable lamps and traditional paraffin lanterns.
The main area and dining room have wonderful views of the river; in fact from all around the camp it is possible to watch the prolific wildlife that comes down to the river to drink, as well as the resident hippo and crocodiles that float nearby. Dining is often by the river or under the stars next to the fire.
As the dry season progresses, the landscape dries up – and the numbers and diversity of animals that visit the water increase. This means that there is seldom a dull moment in camp, particularly for those that do not wish to ‘siesta’ during the heat of the day!
Musanza Camp Game Viewing
The Park’s dominant antelope species are red lechwe and puku, with other antelope being bushbuck, kudu, grysbok, oribi, reedbuck, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, sable and roan. There are also elephant, buffalo, hippo and crocodile, and predators include lion and cheetah; spotted hyaena are in the area but seldom seen. Leopard can also be seen along the wooded tree-lines fringing the plains. Bird life is fantastic, with large flocks of Pelicans, Crowned Crane and Wattled Crane on the plains.
